“30%” makes it into Sundance 2013

We are very pleased to report that 30%: Women and Politics in Sierra Leone has made the official selection of the Sundance Film Festival 2013. This short documentary, following three strong women trying to increase the quote of female politicians in Sierra Leone, is the work of artist and filmmaker Anna Cady and includes beautiful painted animations by Em Cooper. See some stills from her work below: Attic was responsible for the sound design and mix of this splendid piece and it was certainly a pleasure to work on. We hope it is well admired at Sundance and it helps further the cause of the...

Comedians, Clowns and Princesses

A wide variety of events have unfolded in the last few months. It has, so far, been the year of the short film, with Attic hard at work supervising a number of expertly made and interesting shorts. We have recently completed Christian Krohn’s The Turn, a story about a comedian in the decidedly unfunny world of stand-up comedy and comedy clubs. The lead was expertly played by Tim Bentinck (best know as the voice of BBC Radio’s David Archer) and the short allowed us some room for creative work. The club itself, with its dodgy PA and its crowd full of rowdy regulars shifting on...

Attic prepares for some ‘Clowning Around’…

We are very happy to announce that we have been chosen to sound design a wonderful short film called ‘Clowning Around’. Clowning Around is the creation of director Damien Cullen, and as soon as we saw a rough cut we knew we wanted to be involved. It is a tragic comedy, following the lovable clown Bonzo, trying to keep a grip on his clowning career. Bonzo is mute throughout the film, leaving plenty of room for sound design to add an extra layer of definition to his character. Also the careful balance of emotions that Damien is attempting to weave will need to be partly expressed...

Swords & Sworcery and Human Beings

As a company whose reason-to-be is to create fantastic sound & music, it is important that we recognise some of the folk around the world who are doing highly exceptional work. From an audio perspective, Swords & Sworcery – a tactile adventure game for the iPad and iPhone – is a work of art.   We are a little late to the party on this one, but after finally getting the time to play and complete the game we recognise it is an important landmark for anyone interested in game sound or interactive sound. What is apparent is how more immersive an experience can be when...

Happy 2012 – a long year ahead…

A belated happy new year to you all! As you can see (if you’ve not visited our site for a while) it’s had a bit of an overhaul and is also now optimized for most major smartphones. We can now add ‘basic website hacking’ to our CV’s – hurrah! We hope it’s going to be a busy year at Attic and, although January is notoriously quiet, already we have some projects bubbling away. We recently completed sound-post on a fantastic short called ‘Waking At Dawn’, directed by Onyinye Egenti. It is an exceptional piece that tackles the very current...
